2022, what a year 😍

Have never been this excited for the new year; maybe it’s because I can easily predict my 2023 is going to be awesome. Fingers crossed 🤞

2022, what a year it was. Exactly the way I wanted — “responsible”.

As I reflect on the year 2022, I can visualize how satisfying it has been to survive this journey as I was almost broke after the tough 2021. But that life; always unpredictable.

Looking back to 2022!

Welcoming Rambo baby

Yes, we now have a dog in the house; who entered the home as a sweet little baby but now is the KING of the house.

It’s amazing to see how quickly he has grown and he is loved by everyone.

Many random books shopping but almost stopped reading + writing

I kept on going random book shopping in 2022, although I was reading very less or none. I kept buying and kept lending/gifting. I have already lost track of the books that I lend and to whom. So, if you have my book, please feel free to keep it. It’s yours now.

Also, I gifted many books this year to the people I loved so that I stay in their memories if I disappear in near future.

In terms of reading, I did the worst. My Goodreads 2022 reading challenge says I wanted to complete 15 books but unfortunately I completed just 1. What a shame. I definitely look forward to improving this reading aspect of mine in 2023. The only book that I completed was “Lu” by Nayan Raj Pandey. Lu is the combination of so many things and emotions. I loved how the writer Nayan Raj Pandey portrayed each character and the complex topics in simple words.

I also did the very worst in writing aspects. Almost gave up on writing the rants, the only rant that I wrote in 2022 was about my crazy Europe trip. But I am still keeping my scribble account ALIVE, where I write my emotions. Most of the writing in 2022 has been focused on work-related activities like reports, blogs, project proposals, etc.

Crazy traveling and canceled trek

My Google Maps timeline says I completed 5 trips in 2022 and most of them were inside Nepal for work-related activities. Most of the travel is focused on Lumbini, Madhesh, and Karnali Province, as its the working area of Data for Development (D4D) Nepal.

I also went for the memorial vacation of eastern Nepal and Darjeeling, which was kinda fun as I entered Darjeeling after so many years.

Also, survived one of the crazy travel of my lifetime in 2022. Went to Spain for work, where my backpack with passport, purse with all money & cards, some personal belonging, etc got stolen from Barcelona, Spain on 12th May 2022. It was a crazy experience, and I had to cancel my solo Europe trip plans in the middle and return back home. Hopefully soon in the near future, will plan for solo Europe again and at that time I promised to be careful.

But unfortunately in 2022, my first-ever planned trek of the Manaslu circuit was canceled due to the bad weather.

Got a tattoo

That’s right, I got a tattoo. Was never planning to get one, but like every other random thing, I do in life, getting a tattoo was also very random.

Just went for it without much planning. But I will never regret getting it.

Brought a bicycle

Haven’t been riding much, but just to balance the confusion of what to do on the weekend; I brought a bicycle. It’s not that much expensive and fancy as professional bicyclists ride. But it is pretty good and has been giving me good company. I already completed a few trips here and there of Kathmandu valley.

Hectic work calendar

As I look back, I can’t believe I survived such a hectic work calendar. But it was all worth and many thanks to my colleagues for being awesome.

In 2022, I joined the advisory board of the Open Data Charter, a fellowship program of the OpenMRS, an executive course of The GovLab’s Open Data Policy Lab, a member of mySociety Action Lab, and a cohort of the Climate Action Champions Network.

Along with like-minded individuals, we founded Youth IGF Nepal and also got an opportunity to be a country researcher for Global Data Barometer 2022.

Managing the Global Open Data Day was also one of the major highlights. Working with Open Knowledge Foundation (OKF) team to support the organization hosting local open data day events. If you want to read the highlights, please feel free to check out the details on the blog.

From Open Knowledge Nepa, we helped organize OSM Hackfest and the Women in Data conference. We also joined the Digital Nepal conference along with other stakeholders and launched two major projects named Integrated Data Management System and Climate Knowledge Portal. 2022 was also the year when we announced the new brand identity of OKN.

Work ~ life balance

Still trying my best to find the best way to balance work and life, but slowly getting used to it. In 2022, I tried my best to allocate more time to my family and friends. Attended the family functions more regularly and catch up with friends for chiya, food, and hikes.

YEAH, that’s my 2022. Life goes on 🚶‍♂️

Looking forward to an awesome 2023. See you on the other side!
